Pakistan's Zardari Returns Country from Dubai |

Friday, 13 January 2012Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari returned to Islamabad early Friday morning after his brief private visit, Presidential spokesman said.
President Zardari left for Dubai on Thursday amidst political uncertainty in the country in the wake of tension of the government with the judiciary and the powerful army, Xinhua reported.
"President Asif Zardari, who had gone to Dubai Thursday afternoon on a private visit to attend a wedding returned to Islamabad in the wee hours of Friday morning," presidential spokesman Farhatulah Babar said.
Babar said that the president travelled to Dubai for a few hours on private visit to attend a wedding, he said.
Local media had reported on Thursday that the president will also undergo medical check-ups, but the spokesman did not mention it in his Friday's statement.
President Zardari was suddenly flown to UAE last month on health grounds but his trip had sparked speculations and even local media had reported that he would not come back and that he could resign. But he returned after a month treatment in a Dubai hospital.
The Thursday's trip had come at a time when President Zardari was facing growing pressure over an alleged memo sent to the U.S. by former Pakistani ambassador in Washington Hussain Haqqani to seek U.S. help for President Zardari to assert control over the army.
The memo, which is now a big scandal in Pakistan, had also allegedly sought U.S. help to stop a possible military coup after the killing of Osama bin Laden. |
