The parliamentary election campaign running in Kazakhstan will end today just before midnight, a member of the CEC Tatiana Ohlopkova said today.

"The election campaign for candidates to the Majilis (lower chamber of parliament) and the maslihats will end today," Ms Ohlopkova said.

From now until the polling stations close parties as well as the public and the unions which have been entitled to campaign must now cease.

"A party may be removed from the voting results should there be any such violation of this regulation," Ms Ohlopkova said.

Snap elections to the Majilis (lower chamber) and the maslihats (local representative body) will be held in Kazakhstan this Sunday, Jan.15.

The Nur Otan national-democratic party, Adilet, Kazakhstan Patriots' Party, National social-democratic party, Akzhol, Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan and the Kazakh Social Democratic Party Auyl are all taking part in the elections.
