Friday, 13 January 2012Most Kazakh political parties taking part in elections to the Majilis (lower chamber of parliament) on 15 Jan., didn't conduct a fully-fledged election campaign, regional coordinator of the Republican network of independent observers Bayan Ahmetzhanova said at a press-conference summarising extensive monitoring in the country's 13 provinces.
Ms Ahmetzhanova said a small number of candidates and parties' inactivity in the election campaign suggests that their part in the election is nominal.
"Of all parties participating in the elections only the Nur Otan party has a full list of candidates of 127 people. The remaining political parties have limited lists. Thus, the Ak zhol party nominated 63 candidates, Adilet party - 59, National social-democratic party (NSCP) - 54, Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan (CPPK) - 21, Kazakhstan Patriots' Party - 20 and the Auyl party - 18," she said.
The publicly funded Republican network of independent observers has carried out long-term monitoring in the provinces from December 1, 2011 to January 12, 2012. This is under the project Mission observing the snap elections of the Majilis deputies and regular elections of maslihat deputies. |
