Moldova's Constitutional Court has annulled a December presidential election that produced no winner.

The move, taken on January 12, gives Moldova’s parliament more time to try and elect a head of state.

The Reuters news agency reports that the ruling means the presidential election -- which takes place in parliament rather than by popular vote -- will not be held on January 15, as scheduled.

Parliament now needs to set a new date for the election after it reconvenes in February.

Moldova has been without a president for more than two years as no group in parliament has been able to gather the required amounts of votes.
