Kazakhstan has all the prerequisites to become a member of the Council of Europe, Elsa Papadimitriou, the head of the mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), told journalists after meeting with Chairman of the Kazakh Senate Kairat Mami on Thursday.

She said Kazakhstan is already a partner in democracy and has all the prerequisites and all the elements to be not only an observer, but also a full member of the Council of Europe. At present, Kazakhstan has already filed an application to be an observer at the Council of Europe.

"The PACE and the Council of Europe want the forthcoming elections to the Majilis of the Parliament to be successful, as we believe that people deserve it, and we wish them to be transparent as much as possible," Papadimitriou said.
