Thursday, 12 January 2012ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish dailies mostly covered on their Thursday editions a protest rally of lawmakers with Turkey's main opposition party, Bulgarian parliament's adoption of a declaration that condemns an assimilation campaign against Turks and Muslims back in the Cold War, Turkish justice minister's remarks over a legislation that would shorten lengthy court trial times, and Turkish deputy premier's remarks over a number of MPs who are behind bars.
"Touch us too," the daily VATAN headlined when telling the story over the rally of the Republican People's Party lawmakers in Ankara to protest a legal filing to remove legislative immunity of CHP chairman, Kemal Kilicdaroglu. A total of 132 CHP lawmakers submitted their petitions to Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek for the removal of their immunities as well to follow suit with their leader who had filed a similar petition earlier.
"A historic decision from Sofia," daily HURRIYET said over Bulgarian parliament's adoption of the declaration that condemns an assimilation campaign against Turks and Muslims in the country during the communist regime.
Daily RADIKAL quoted Turkish Justice Minister Sadullah Ergin as saying that the government was working on a bill that would shorten trial times in courts. "We will submit a bill in a week that will shorten trial time to an average of one year for for civil cases and to 2 years for criminal cases," Ergin said.
"There are no ifs and buts about it. The proper place for an MP is the parliament," daily MILLIYET quoted Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc as saying over elected lawmakers who were still in prison. |
