Tuesday, 10 January 2012ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Tuesday issues Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's statements regarding arrest of former Chief of General Staff Gen. Ilker Basbug, legal procedures about Peace & Democracy Party (BDP) leader Selahattin Demirtas and tender for Istanbul's third bridge.
Almost all newspapers wrote about Erdogan's remarks regarding arrest of Basbug and quoted Erdogan as saying, "he was a colleague with whom we worked together for two years. I wish that Basbug would be tried without arrest." Erdogan said he hoped the process on trial of Basbug would be concluded in that way.
Milliyet daily wrote about legal procedures about Demirtas and said that General Staff had initiated legal procedures about Demirtas. "General Staff stated that legal procedures had been initiated about the leader of a political party due to his statements against Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel," the daily said. Recently, Demirtas said, "even though your rank is general, you are a non-commissioned officer for us" regarding Gen. Ozel.
Vatan and Zaman dailies wrote stories about the tender of third bridge over Istanbul's Bosphorus and surrounding roads. The dailies said that the tender would be held on Tuesday, stating that 18 Turkish and foreign companies will compete in the tender. The highways and the new bridge will connect the provinces of Adapazari and Tekirdag in Turkey's northwest, which would span 414 km. |
