Kazakhstan Interested in Conducting Transparent and Fair Elections - Senate Speaker |

Monday, 9 January 2012Kazakhstan is interested in conducting transparent and fair elections in accordance with international standards. Chairman of the Kazakh Senate Kairat Mami has announced at a meting with Chen Zhili, Vice Chairwoman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress.
"At present our country completes preparations for elections to the Majilis - the Lower House of the Parliament, which will be held on January 15. The upcoming elections aim at formation of a multiparty Parliament and are an important step on the way of democratic development of the country," K.Mami said.
He outlined that Kazakhstan pays special attention to promotion of the process of democratization and modernization of the institutions of the representative authority.
Te Senate Chairman informed the guest that seven political parties participate in the election campaign. More than 600 representatives of foreign states and international organizations were accredited as observers for the parliamentary elections.
