Monday, 9 January 2012ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Monday issues President Abdullah Gul's tweets about northwestern provinces of Bolu and Duzce in the weekend, government's reaction to the statements of Peace & Democracy Party (BDP) leader Selahattin Demirtas, and the soccer game between Besiktas and Ankaragucu teams.
Almost all newspapers wrote that President Gul, who spent his weekend in Istanbul city, shared his views about Bolu and Duzce provinces where he visited on Thursday and Friday. Gul stayed at Tarabya Palace in Istanbul whole weekend due to rainy weather, and wrote to his 1.1 million followers on the twitter, "Hello everyone. The weather is overcast in Istanbul. I'm at home." He said about Bolu and Duzce, "the new buildings of governor's office are bad. Bolu's nature is great. Duzce is healing its wounds remaining from the earthquake. Have a good weekend."
Another topic in the newspapers is government's reaction to BDP leader Demirtas who said "you are even not a non-commissioned officer for us" regarding Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel who objected education in Kurdish language. Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said, "those, who cannot call PKK a terrorist organization, calls our chief of general staff a non-commissioned officer. We will stand against this." Environment Minister Erdogan Bayraktar said, "we don't let them speak bad about our army."
Ankaragucu-Besiktas soccer game in Spor Toto Super League is another topic in the newspapers. The two teams drew 0-0 in a game in capital Ankara. With this result, Besiktas dropped seven points behind the leaders Galatasaray in the league. |
