UNITED NATIONS (A.A) - The secretary of the United Nations (UN) urged on Friday Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders to do as much as possible.

Ban Ki-moon said he urged President Dervis Eroglu of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias to do as much as possible and agree as much as possible during the January 23rd and 24th negotiation in Greentree, New York.

"There is no deadline as such, but I have made it quite clear that we cannot go on this way, considering that Cyprus is going to take the Presidency of the European Union from July 1st, then there is not much time left," Ban told reporters when asked the Greentree summit was the last chance to achieve peace.

Ban said, "therefore, I urged them, the two leaders, to do as much as possible and agree as much as possible during the January 23rd and 24th negotiation in Greentree, and think about the possibility of moving towards the international conference that was announced by me at the conclusion of our meeting last year."

"And I hope that before they come to New York, they [will] engage continuously in that negotiation. I understand that they are going to meet again on January 9th. I hope that there will be a good result," he said.

Eroglu and Christofias held their fourth trilateral meeting with Ban in Greentree, New York on October 30-31, 2011.
