Kazakhstan to Abolish Work Quotas for Russian, Belarusian Citizens

Kazakhstan will abolish quotas for foreign workers from Customs Union countries, Kazakh Economic Integration Policy Minister Zhanar Aitzhatova said.

"Under the agreement on the legal status of labor migrants, the following restrictions on workers from the unified economic space - Russia and Belarus - beginning on January 1, 2012: quantitative restrictions [on labor migrants], quotas, and work permits," the minister said.

According to the Kazakh Labor and Social Security Ministry, some 1,000 Russian citizens and some 100 Belarusian citizens are now working in Kazakhstan.
