Slovenia, Croatia Foreign Ministers Meet to Solve Border Dispute |

Thursday, 5 January 2012The Foireign Ministers of Slovenia and Croatia will meet on January 10 in Brussels to finalize the creation of an arbitration tribunal to solve the border dispute between the two countries.
Slovenia's foreign ministry said that the meeting between Foreign Minister Samuel Zbogar and his Croatian counterpart Vesna Pusic was proposed by EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Füle.
"We expect at the meeting we will be presented with a list (of candidates to the arbitration panel) from which we will choose the president and two members," Pusic specified.
The border dispute between the two former Yugoslav republics dates back to 1991, when the two countries declared independence.
The row involves 13 square kilometers of sparsely populated land land and a wedge of territorial water in and around Piran Bay.
The border dispute delayed Croatia's EU accession talks for 10 months in 2008.
The two governments signed an arbitration deal mediated by the EU in 2009
Croatia signed an EU accession treaty last month and is on its way to become the 28th EU country on July 01, 2013. |
