Tuesday, 3 January 2012ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Tuesday's edition the meeting between Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Chief of General Staff Gen. Necdet Ozel and historic exports record.
Almost all the papers published stories on Erdogan-Ozel meeting that focused on recent operation that killed 35 people in Uludere town of the southeastern province of Sirnak. Sabah daily newspaper wrote that Erdogan received information from Ozel about the operation, and Ozel briefed Erdogan on four-hour images of the Uludere incident.
Turkiye's perspective was a bit different from the other papers. Turkiye wrote a story about the agonies of Uludere's Gulyazi village. The paper wrote that five kids of Osman Kaplan, who was smuggling goods to earn his living, were sorrowful. According to the paper, on one hand Osman's wife Pakize is thinking what she can do, and on the other hand she is feeling great sorrow over death of her husband.
Yeni Safak referred to the story in another perspective. It quoted Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc as saying that 35 people, who died in Uludere, could be misguided by the terrorist organization, while Zaman wrote that the government would pay compensation to relatives of people who lost their lives in Uludere incident.
The other main topic in Turkish dailies was historic exports record. Zaman wrote that Turkey broke a record in exports in its history, and exports climbed to 134.6 billion USD in 2011. Yeni Safak wrote that exports were up 18.2 percent year-on-year in 2011 and reached 134.6 billion USD, Turkiye said that Turkey recorded the highest exports of the last 37 months in December 2011, and exports climbed to 12.1 billion USD that month.
Moreover, almost all the papers referred to Super Toto Super League 2011-2012 season's second half that will begin on Tuesday with a match between Galatasaray and Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyespor at the Arena. Zaman also wrote that Trabzonspor will host Manisaspor. |
