Monday, 2 January 2012ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Monday issues Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's meeting with Ismail Haniyeh, Prime Minister of the Palestinian administration in Gaza, and the Turkish government's plans to pay compensation to the families of 35 individuals who were hit by Turkish jets last Wednesday night at the Turkish-Iraqi border.
Commenting on Erdogan's meeting with Haniyeh, Vatan, Cunhuriyet and Milliyet dailies emphasized that Erdogan's first guest in the new year was Haniyeh. The papers wrote that Haniyeh thanked Erdogan for his efforts to solve the Palestine problem and for trying to end the embargo imposed on Gaza. According to the dailies, Erdogan and Haniyeh also discussed efforts made for a new Palestinian government and the developments in Syria.
Dailies also drew attention to Turkish government's efforts to make an apology to the families of 35 individuals who were killed after Turkish jets hit them late Wednesday at the Turkish-Iraqi border. Yeni Safak daily wrote that the Turkish government was making plans to pay at least 100,000 Turkish liras (TL) as compensation to each of the families of those who were killed last week in Uludere town of the south-eastern province of Sirnak. |
