President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev opened the Intellectual Transport Management Center in Baku.

The Head of State cut the ribbon symbolizing the opening of the center.

Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov told President Aliyev the 5-storyed Center includes a modern server, 18 network equipments and a 120-sqm monitor.

President Aliyev inspected the intellectual control room. He was told the world`s biggest monitor reflecting 600 digital images had been installed at the center. The monitor displays real-time information at 150 intersections and management of 2,000 buses.

The Center works in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs in crime prevention. The facility will also monitor the stills captured by 600 video cameras of the ministry.

President Aliyev addressed the ceremony. He said many problems of urban transport will be solved as a result of the Intellectual Transport Management Center's activity.

"As I was told, there are eight such centers in the world, and the Baku center has the most progressive and advanced technology among them. I should note that the idea of creating such center came to me during my visit to the Republic of Korea. I then became acquainted with the possibilities of the Intellectual Transport Management Center of Seoul, and we decided to create such a system in Baku. Indeed, it occurred a few years ago. Then the "traffic jam" problem was not so sharp in Baku, but despite this, given further development of our city and country, we decided to create this system in Azerbaijan, Baku, by all means," President Aliyev said.

The president voiced his hope that Azerbaijan will also create this system in other cities in the subsequent stages. "Thus, after several years all the cities in our country will be provided with this excellent system. In the end, it will lead to a unique situation in the world's practice. Because, as I said, this system is available in eight countries, but it covers one or two cities there," President Aliyev said.

He stressed that Azerbaijan will take additional measures to improve the road transport system of Baku in the coming years. "There are concrete plans and resources. These issues will find their solution in the next year's investment program," Aliyev said.

Our country's transport sector is successfully developing, he said. "We will continue this work also in the subsequent years both in Baku and regions. Thus, the most advanced road transport infrastructure will be created in Azerbaijan. Most of it has already been created," President Aliyev underscored.

He said transport is an important sector for any country, especially for countries with a favorable geographical position. "Azerbaijan is situated at the junction of the contingents. If we do not pay due attention to these issues, then the geographical position will not help us. A powerful transport infrastructure is being created. A shipyard is under construction. Ships are also transport - we will build them ourselves. An international sea trade port, which is the largest in the Caspian Sea, is under construction in Alat. All this work requires great resources. But we are doing it and will continue so. We do it to strengthen our country and provide people with efficient services," President Aliyev said.

President Aliyev also viewed the equipment used in the intellectual transport management system. The terminals established at bus-stops provide information about bus schedules and time of their arrival. The equipment for the management of traffic lights serves to regulate road traffic. The single payment system to be used on public transport will significantly enhance passenger comfort.

The Head of State gave relevant instructions and recommendations.
