ANKARA (A.A) - The Spokesman and Deputy Chairman of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, Huseyin Celik, said Thursday that the group hit by Turkish jets at the Turkish-Iraqi border on Wednesday night were not terrorists but smugglers according to preliminary reports.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the AK Party in Ankara, Celik said that Turkey was a state of law.

If a mistake was conducted (on Wednesday night), this would be determined within the boundaries of the state of law and necessary steps would be taken, Celik stressed.

If those hit last night were indeed all smugglers, they were not supposed to be bombed in any case, Celik noted.

Turkey's south-eastern border with Iraq is frequently used by terrorists to stage acts.
