Turkmenistan President Meets Afghan Commerce and Industries Minister

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the Minister of Commerce and Industries of Afghanistan, Anwar ul Haq Ahadi, the Turkmen embassy said Thursday in a statement.

Ahadi conveyed greetings from the AfghanPresident Hamid Karzai to Berdimuhamedov, and congratulated the President and the Turkmen people on coming New Year.

Berdimuhamedov wished the Afghan people "new impressive progress toward lasting peace and stability that are the key to revival of Afghanistan". He said that Turkmenistan supports the establishment of civil accord in the neighboring country, and intends to continue to fully support the efforts of the international community to ensure the safe life of the Afghan people, using only political, diplomatic, trade, economic and humanitarian approach.

Ahadi expressed deep appreciation for utmost assistance, as well as for new approaches to solving the Afghan problem that are reflected in the Turkmen leader's international initiatives, which he voiced at the last meeting of the UN General Assembly. Ahadi said that Afghanistan highly appreciates neutral Turkmenistan's peace-loving policy that is an important factor in maintaining geopolitical balance, peace and stability in Central Asia.

During the meeting the Turkmen leader and Afghan Minister reiterated their countries' commitment to the traditional friendly relations and good neighborliness, as well as their willingness to deepen fruitful intergovernmental dialogue between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

The Turkmen leader and his guest named commerce and economic sphere, electric-power industry, development of transportation infrastructure and of cultural and humanitarian ties among the priorities of bilateral partnership.

The sides also discussed the cooperation in fuel-energy complex, specifically the practical implementation of the project for construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline (TAPI).

Berdimuhamedov and Ahadi expressed strong confidence in the successful continuation of the constructive intergovernmental dialogue.
