Russia Slams US, Bulgaria's Human Rights Record |

Thursday, 29 December 2011The Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation had published its first ever report on "Human Rights around the World."
The report includes several highly-critical paragraphs on Bulgaria, citing the opinion of a "number of international and local human rights NGOs, which say the situation with adherence to human rights in Bulgaria remains unsatisfactory," the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports Thursday.
The section on Bulgaria further cites the report of the United Nations Human Rights Council from November 4, 2010, and assessments of the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, BHC.
The 90-page report also criticizes other EU Member States, Canada, Georgia, but its longest section – about 20 pages - focuses on criticism of the US, where Russia's Foreign Ministry describes ways the country violates human rights.
Some examples include the Guantanamo Bay prison and wrongful death row convictions, all while the "US hypocritically lectures other nations on the subject of human rights."
Other accusations involve spying on own citizens and violating rights of Muslims in the effort to counter terrorism.
Regarding the wrongful death sentences, the reports notes that 130 people sentenced to death in the last 30 years in the US, have been exonerated later, in some cases just days after being executed. |
