Wednesday, 28 December 2011ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish dailies mostly covered in their Wednesday's edition Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's remarks on the adoption of French resolution criminalizing denial of Armenian allegations regarding the incidents of 1915, Syrian people's slogans regarding Erdogan, new strategies against the terrorist organization PKK, an exclusive interview with the president of Swiss Federation, President Abdullah Gul's remarks about his mandate, and an independent lawmaker's remarks.
Almost all the papers referred to Erdogan's remarks regarding Armenian allegations, while Sabah daily newspaper quoted the premier as saying that Turkey would take into consideration the archives not the parliament votes. Erdogan said, "we will speak with a scientific language and method against ill-minded campaigns." Turkiye newspaper quoted Erdogan as saying that Turkey would respond to the resolution with archives and documents.
Also, Sabah daily newspaper headlined Syrian people's affection for Erdogan, and wrote that 70,000 people walked in streets chanting "Great Erdogan" and carrying Turkish flags during the visit of Arab League observers.
In an exclusive interview with Vatan, Defense Minister Ismet Yilmaz talked about stroke hit on the terrorist organization in recent days and new strategies. Yilmaz said, "the Interior Ministry is dealing with fight against terrorism, and the Turkish Armed Forces are involved if support is needed. There is a good dialogue between institutions. We are trying to get a result by keeping them alive not killing them in operations. We are trying to persuade people who target at us with their guns."
Another exclusive interview was published in Zaman daily newspaper. The paper interviewed with Micheline Calmy-Rey, the president of the Swiss Confederation and Switzerland's foreign minister. Calmy-Rey used the expression "the business of historians" when talking about genocide allegations. Regarding last year's referendum on minaret ban, Calmy-Rey said it did not suit her country.
President Gul's remarks was another topic in Turkish dailies. Milliyet quoted Gul as saying that he did not have any political expectation or plan while Yeni Safak wrote that Gul replied to questions of a TV channel and said he would like the decision regarding his term in mission to be clarified as soon as possible. Turkiye said Gul refused to say anything about the discussions, and quoted his as saying that he wished that discussions were clarified as soon as possible.
The last topic in Turkish dailies was an independent lawmaker's remarks. Hurriyet published a story on remarks of Leyla Zana, who spoke to Kurdish Rudaw web-site. The paper quoted Zana as saying, "we demanded autonomy at first, but today Kurds think that autonomy is not enough." According to the paper, Zana said, "they talk about individual rights for Kurds in the new constitution, but we are saying that we are not individuals but a nation. We want the rights of a nation. There can be no hope in Turkey unless Kurdish problem is solved." |
