Saturday, 24 December 2011A suicide attack has killed at least six Pakistani troops in the country's northwest.
Police say the bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a paramilitary building in the Bannu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday.
At least a dozen members of the paramilitary Frontier Corps were wounded in the blast, which targeted the camp office of a unit called the Tochi Scouts.
The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
A Taliban spokesman, Ehsansullah Ehsan, said the attack was meant to avenge the killing of one of its commanders, Taj Gul, in a recent U.S. drone strike in the South Waziristan tribal region, a key sanctuary for the militants.
The spokesman also said the Taliban was behind Friday's attack on a paramilitary post in the Tank district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. One soldier was killed and 15 troops were reported missing.
Ehsan said the Taliban has kidnapped the soldiers.
