Hamas Joins to PLO |

Hamas and Al-Fatah established a national government in Palestine in 2007.But the government could never act like one body because of the distrust and conflict between the two parties. This disintegrated structure became more obvious with Hamas’ controlling the Gaza Strip while Fatah dominated to the West Bank.
In December, 23, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Meshal came together for reconciliation talks in Cairo. Following the meeting, it was announced that Hamas agreed to join the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO). But so far any sides have not explained the reforms and policies that they will follow from now on. Both sides want to end the disputes and establish a national government in Palestine.
Hamas’ being willing to accept to move into the PLO can be seen as a sign that Hamas and Fatah might change their negative stances toward each other. What is more, Hamas which was has chosen armed struggle with Israel so far might shift its approach to Israel and recognize its existence like Al-Fatah.
On the other side, fearing the possibility of creation of a united government in Palestine, Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu’s spokesman Mark Regev criticized the reconciliation between Hamas and Al Fatah as it would prevent the peace in the region. |
