Thursday, 22 December 2011The level of renewable energy resources use in Uzbekistan will increase from 0.3% to 10% by 2030. Development of alternative energy will create tens of thousands of additional jobs in high tech industries.
This information sounded at the first organizational meeting of the Council of Scientific and Technical Association 'Enterprises of Alternative Fuels and Energy'.
It was organized by the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the State Committee for Nature Protection, the state inspection, Sanoatgeokontehnazorat, Uzgosneftegazinspektsiya and Association 'Enterprises of Alternative Fuels and Energy'.
Leading Uzbek scientists focused on the existing potential of use of alternative energy. According to experts, its capacity is three times higher than non-renewable resources of organic fuel.
Interest in the rapid introduction of renewable energy sources is dictated by the growth prospects of shortages of liquid hydrocarbons, participants noted. After 2030 the country will require alternative energy sources to replace 12-13 million tons of oil equivalent per year or 21% of the external energy balance in order to ensure energy sustainability.
Vice-Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis, chairman of the Environmental Movement of Uzbekistan Boriy Alikhanov drew attention to three areas of alternative energy development in Uzbekistan with the greatest technical potential. These include the use of solar energy, hydro-potential of small rivers, reservoirs and canals and replacement of motor fuel to liquefied natural gas and electricity stored in batteries.
In addressing the latter issue, Uzbekistan has achieved some success, as more than 300 thousand vehicles switched to liquefied and compressed natural gas. As a result pollutant emissions significantly reduced - roughly 15-fold the nitrogen oxides, 7 – 8-fold hydrocarbons and 10-fold black, he said.
Deputies group of the Legislative Chamber of the Ecology Movement and the Adolat Party prepared a new draft law "On alternative fuels and energy", which has been discussed with the relevant departments and ministries and is prepared for adoption in 2012's first reading at the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis.
One of the priorities is to create the infrastructure for the introduction of alternative energy sources, including its scientific basis. Creating the fundamentals and applications in this area is the scope of scientists of the Association 'Enterprises of Alternative Fuels and Energy'.
The next step is the creation of a special fund for alternative energy development in Uzbekistan. |
