Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has $179,612 in the bank and has earned just over half a million dollars in the past four years, Russia's Central Electoral Commission has said.

Putin's financial details were made public as part of his bid to win a third stint in the Kremlin in elections due for March 2012.

Putin’s reported income for the last four years is $557,744, taking into account his salary, interest from bank deposits and shares, the Rossiyskaya Gazeta daily newspaper reported his assets include a share in a public garage, a Moscow apartment of 153,7 square meters, an apartment in St. Petersburg of 77 square meters and a 1,500-square meter plot of land.

Putin's wife, Lyudmila holds $261,541 in her four accounts. Her revenue for the last four years amounted to $46,258.

Russia's top officials have been forced to declare their income since 2008, but pundits say little headway has been made in tackling corruption.
