Ankara and Dushanbe signed a protocol, expressing Turkey's support to Tajikistan's efforts to join the World Trade Organization (WTO), Asia-Plus reported on Tuesday.

The document was signed by permanent Tajik representative in the UN's Geneva office Salohiddin Nasriddinov and permanent Turkish representative in the WTO Bozurkat Aran at the WTO's biennial ministerial conference held in Geneva.

An ad hoc commission, formed by Tajikistan's government, prepares necessary documents needed for the country''s joining the WTO.

The signing of similar protocols with other WTO member-countries is expected in the near future.

The WTO is an organization that intends to supervise and liberalize international trade. It officially commenced on January 1, 1995 under the Marrakech Agreement. The organization deals with regulation of trade between participating countries.
