December 16 Declared Day of Kazakhstan in Houston

Celebration of the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's Independence took place in Houston, "Oil capital of the world".

The representatives of the United States Congress, the City of Houston Mayor's Office, consular corps, cultural centers of various countries in Houston gathered to mark the jubilee of Kazakhstan's independence and 20th anniversary of Kazakh-U.S. relations. In her congratulatory message Houston Mayor Annise D. Parker declared 16 December 2011 the Day of Kazakhstan in Houston.

The celebration was organized by "Shanyrak" Fund under the aegis of Kazakh Embassy in the U.S. The Fund was founded in 2008 by our compatriots living in Houston. As the chairman of the fund Nariman Utemisov says, its main objectives are to promote the deepening of partnership between Kazakhstan and the United States, disseminate information about Kazakhstan, its history, culture and future plans, as well as support Kazakh compatriots living in the State of Texas.
