Iran's Steel Production Goes Up by 10%

Iran's steel production has witnessed 10-percent growth in the first 10 months of the year, country's Minister

of Industry, Mines and Trade Mehdi Ghazanfari said, Press TV reported.

On Sunday, Ghazanfari said that according to the World Steel Association, Iran produced 10.903 million tons of

crude steel during the first 10 months of the year 2011, indicating a 10.9 percent increase compared with the

corresponding figure for the previous year.

Iran is the second biggest steel producer in the Middle East after Turkey. The main steel mills of the country

are located in Isfahan and Khuzestan provinces.

The major raw steel producers of Iran are the Mobarakeh Steel Mill, with approximately 47 percent of the

market share, the Khuzestan Steel Company with about 23 percent, the Isfahan Foundry with about 20 percent,

and the Iran National Steel Industries Group with approximately 10 percent of the market share.
