Saturday, 10 December 2011Kazakhstan's parliament adopted a Declaration of the 20th anniversary of state independence at a plenary session on Saturday.
“The declaration is a solemn political and legal document, which aptly embodies the main stages of the country’s development,” Chairman of the Committee for Social Cultural development Akhan Bizhanov said. Bizhanov added that the declaration calls contemporaries and future generations to preserve and strengthen the independence of Kazakhstan's basic values, freedom, unity, stability and prosperity.
Kazakhstan’s parliament also passed a law on Saturday that is aimed at establishing a new national holiday, the Day of the First President of Kazakhstan. The holiday will be marked on December 1, when the first President was elected.
The declaration and the law were sent to Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev for signature.
Nazarbayev has been in office since 1989 and was granted the official title of "leader of the nation" by parliament last year. |
