Security Services of Asian CIS States Discuss Anti-terror Measures

The CIS security services began expert consultations to outline joint preventive measures to combat the security threat in the Central Asian region.
According to Itar-Tass, the consultations are held at the CIS Anti-Terrorist Centre with the support of the Kyrgyz State Security Committee. The security services of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the CIS Anti-Terrorist Centre, the Coordination Service of the Council of the Commanders of the Border Troops, the bureau for the coordination of the struggle against organized crime and other dangerous crimes are participating in the consultations.

"At the meeting we will discuss the current situation in Central Asia, current and probable terrorist challenges and threats and will outline future guideline of joint actions," first deputy chief of the CIS Anti-Terrorist Centre Maj. Gen. of Justice Moldiar Orazaliyev told reporters. He added that the meeting will focus on "the formulation of preventive measures to combat terrorist and extremist acts."

"The events in North Africa and the Middle East showed that new technologies of terrorism and extremism, which we mentioned in our forecasts repeatedly, are used more and more frequently," Orazaliyev said. "This factor makes national security services and collective structures improve permanently the mechanisms of joint work," he said.

The consultations will particularly discuss "the improvement of the search for criminals, which committed terrorist and extremist crimes, the optimization of the instruments of information cooperation between the law enforcement agencies in the region and the intensification of the practical use of thematic information volumes in the special online database of the CIS Anti-Terrorist Centre," the press bureau of the CIS Anti-Terrorist Centre said.

The participation of practising specialists will also "allow sharing the experience in the investigation of the acts of sabotage and terrorism," the press bureau said.

The expert consultations are held at the CIS Anti-Terrorist Centre under the instructions of the Council of the Chiefs of the State Security Services in the CIS States to formulate the scope of additional preventive measures in the struggle against terrorism according to the tendencies in the development of the current situation in the Central Asian region, the press bureau elaborated.
