The Russian ruble jumped against the U.S. dollar in MICEX trade on Thursday amid investors’ optimism over a decision by the world’s major central banks to take coordinated action to ease banks’ access to cheap loans.

As of 12:23 p.m. Moscow time (09:23 GMT), the ruble strengthened by 31 kopecks against the dollar to 30.8593 and by 10 kopecks against the euro to 41.5350.

Russia's dollar-denominated RTS stock index edged down 1.13 percent to 1,538.74, while the ruble-denominated MICEX increased 0.35 percent to 1.504.89.

The world’s central banks took joint action on Wednesday to provide cheap emergency loans in U.S. dollars to banks around the world to ease fears of a global credit crunch.
