The Patriarch of the Georgian Orthodox Church asked for the reburial of two Georgian tsars, Vakhtang IV and Teimuraz II, in Georgia during his visit to Moscow as part of the celebrations of Russian Patriarch Kirill’s birthday.

“We talked about the reburial of Georgian tsars Vakhtang IV and Teimuraz II who are buried in Astrakhan. According to their will, they asked to be buried in Georgia. We have passed all necessary paperwork over to the Russian side and this issue is being discussed now,” said the Georgian Patriarch.

Patriarch Ilia II raised the issues of Georgian refugees in Abkhazia, held a service in Moscow’s Georgian church of St. George and met with representatives of the Georgian community in Russia.
