Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin thanked representatives of the Russian parliament's lower house in his address during the chamber's last session before December 4 parliamentary elections.

"We worked together for four years as partners, solving very important problems standing before the whole country," Putin said in his speech. "I want to offer my words of thanks to all deputies of the the State Duma, irrespective of the parties or fractions they belong to...to all, thank you very much."

Putin mentioned that the current Duma had passed 1,500 laws during their term.

In line with constitutional amendments introduced in Russia in 2008, the next Russian State Duma will be elected for a period of five years instead of four years.

The Russian parliament’s lower house has 450 seats.
