Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will make his annual state-of-the-nation address to parliament after the December 4 parliamentary election, State Duma Speaker Boris Gryzlov said on Monday.

Medvedev has traditionally delivered his address in October.

Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will hold a live TV “phone-in” with the nation, also after the elections, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

“The phone-in will take place after the [parliamentary] elections, but before the New Year,” Peskov said,

Putin is due to be officially nominated for president by the ruling United Russia party at its convention on November 27.

In mid-September, Putin indicated that Medvedev’s chances of becoming prime minister in the new government would depend on the party’s showing in the parliamentary elections.
