Armenian Parliament Speaker Resigns

Armenian Parliament Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan resigned, he told reporters after a meeting of the executive body of the Republican Party of Armenia, News - Armenia reported.

Abrahamyan noted that the Party has nominated him for the post of chief of election headquarters of the Republican Party in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

"I offered to leave as speaker of the National Assembly and to focus on the formation of electoral headquarters," he said.

Abrahamyan said that the question of who will replace him as a speaker was not discussed at the meeting.
