Baramidze: Georgia will be Ready to Join NATO in Several Years

Within a few years, Georgia will be ready to join NATO. As reported by the GHN, Georgian State Minister for European Integration Giorgi Baramidze shared his opinion.

He announced it to reporters today. According to him, the country is actively working to ensure democratic institutions and defense up to NATO standards.

"Georgia already has all the mechanisms that are important for NATO membership. We have a NATO-Georgia Commission, we have a plan that is sufficient to ensure our country to carry out reforms that are essential for NATO membership, or to raise our institutions to NATO standards, and does not really matter will it be called MAR or otherwise", said Minister of State.

Recall, earlier tiday special representative of NATO in the South Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai, who arrived today early this morning to the Georgian capital, the upcoming on November 7 and 8 visit of NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen to the country is a manifestation of support for Georgia by the Organization.

"Georgia has made great strides on the path to NATO, reforming the country, and we recognize the success of Georgia", IA Trend quoted Appathurai's words.

However, he said, in order to achieve NATO standards, Sakartvelo still need to work more. For example - to bring reforms on democratization the country and the armed forces fully, said the foreign guest.

"We help Georgia in it, an for this perpose we have established the NATO-Georgia Commission, as well as implemented the annual program. All of this brings Georgia to NATO accession" - said the representative of the Alliance.
