ccording to the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Republican John Beynera, the U.S. should support Russia's accession to the WTO only after Russian recognition of Georgia's territorial integrity. As reported by the GHN, Beyner made this statement during his speech at a conference in the analytic center Heritage Foundation.

"The Administration (of the U.S.) must find a way out of this impasse so as to respect the territorial integrity of Georgia", said Beyner. According to him, to Moscow should recognize Georgia's borders as they were before the war of 2008. "Then and only then we should consider Russia's accession into the WTO", said the U.S. Congressman.

According to Beyner, the U.S. Congress must approve the establishment of "permanent normal trade relations" with Russia. However, in regard of the Russian Federation the Jackson-Vanik amendment, contradicting to the rules of the World Trade Organization, was not canceled, he added.

In response, official representative of the U.S. State Department Victoria Nuland said: "Our position on Georgia is known. We recognize its sovereignty and its territorial integrity. Our position on this issue is absolutely clear. This is an area where we have differences. As we have always said about the "restart", we will cooperate and work together where we can, but we also explain where there are differences".
