In Kyrgyzstan, due to the upcoming presidential elections, TV channels RBK (Russia), BBC, CNN and Euronews have been blocked.
According to the Headquarters of Public Control member, Tatu Mambetaliyeva, the airing of the channels has been stopped because the relevant companies do not know what kind of information to block.
Presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan are to be held on October 30, 2011.
An acting legislature allows the re-airing of foreign TV and radio channels only in recordings. In addition, broadcasting programs that abuse the dignity and business reputation of candidates is prohibited.
Russian TV channel Perviy and radio channel Ekho Moskvy are broadcasting with a one hour delay. In the country, the Russian TV channel RBK and Kazakh channel K+ were blocked; instead, music and entertainment channels were broadcast.
According to the Russian agency Interfax, in reference to OSCE report, the Venice Commission and OSCE members consider these limitations to be illegitimate. |
