Japan's All Nippon Airways Co (ANA) landed its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner on Tokyo's Haneda airport Wednesday after more than three years of production delays.

ANA, which took delivery of the plane in the United States on Monday, plans its first commercial flight on a route to Hong Kong as a chartered plane on October 26, DPA reported.

Japan's largest domestic airline will put the 787 into regular scheduled service on domestic routes on November 1 and on an international route between Narita and Beijing in December.

ANA said it would also invite children from areas ravaged by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami on board the plane for a sightseeing flight out of Sendai Airport in the north-east on October 30.

As 35 per cent of the Dreamliner is built by Japanese companies, the arrival of the aircraft has been closely watched in the country.

With a carbon-composite fuselage, larger windows and low-noise, fuel-efficient engines, Boeing sees the 787 Dreamliner as the backbone of its airplane programmes for the next three decades.

The 787 is 20 per cent more fuel efficient than conventional models.

It reportedly cost more than 32 billion dollars to develop.

The US aviation giant has orders for more than 820 of the planes from airlines around the world, including 55 from ANA
