Wednesday, 7 September 2011Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that anti-missile radar planned to be deployed by NATO in Turkey was important for the region.
Erdogan and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodrigues Zapatero held a press conference after the Third Turkey-Spain Summit in Ankara on Tuesday.
Replying to a question on deployment of anti-missile radar by NATO, Erdogan said that they considered that the step taken on the matter was of great importance for the region. "We, as the government, held consultations and made a decision on the matter," he said.
Answering a question on issues regarding Israel, Erdogan said that Turkey told Israel that it should apologize and pay compensation and also, Israel should lift embargoes on Gaza. "Normalization is out of question, if these things are not fulfilled by Israel," he said. Erdogan said Turkey has taken some steps because Israel said it would not fulfill them.
