A regional meeting of Central Asian countries’ National Commissions for UNESCO began today in Astana.
Increasing and strengthening the potential of Central Asian countries’ National Commissions for UNESCO and enhancing regional and subregional cooperation in all of UNESCO’s spheres of activity are the meetings primary goals.
The meeting is attended by chairmen and secretaries general of the Central Asian countries’ National Commissions for UNESCO, UNESCO regional representatives, school leaders of associated schools, UNESCO departments and clubs, and members of the Kazakh National Commission for UNESCO and ISESCO.
"The meeting will be the first event, composed of representatives of National Commissions from Central Asian countries which aim to create a dialogue platform and discuss regional cooperation issues which fall under UNESCO’s spheres of competence," the reference material from the organizing committee states.
The meeting will include section meetings on issues urgently relevant to education, protection and promotion of cultural and natural heritage, intercultural dialogue, intangible heritage and development of information and communication technologies cooperation within Central Asian countries.
The Chairman of UNESCO and ISESCO National Commission of Kazakhstan Imangali Tasmagambetov, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerzhan Kazykhanov, Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to UNESCO Olzhas Suleimenov, Director of UNESCO’s Almaty Cluster Office Sergei Lazarev, and the President of the Kazakh National Federation of UNESCO Clubs G. Isimbaeva will speak during the opening ceremony.
Chairmen and secretaries general of the Central Asian countries’ National Commissions will share their views on the National Commissions’ role in strengthening regional cooperation within UNESCO.
Following the meeting, recommendations will be heard concerning promoting UNESCO initiatives in the country and region. |
