Georgia and Azerbaijan have an old friendship with historical roots. President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili said the enemy of Azerbaijan is the enemy of Georgia.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said both Azerbaijan and Georgia have serious problems with regard to unresolved conflicts, and that whoever opposes Azerbaijan and Georgia is an enemy of both countries. He also added that their power lies in unity. His words were published in a special issue of The Business Year - Azerbaijan 2011 magazine.
Saakashvili said the relationship between Azerbaijan and Georgia is a symbol of brotherhood rather than merely friendship. He commented about how in January 2008, when Georgia was left without electricity or gas, Azerbaijan reduced energy supplies to its own citizens in order to assist it in that difficult situation.
The Georgian President also stressed its close relations with Azerbaijan in terms of mutual cooperation in various projects, such as the construction of the Kars-Tbilisi-Baku railway. With this project, Georgia and Azerbaijan will connect Turkey, Central Asia, China, and Europe.
President Saakashvili also commented on the constantly strengthening relations with Azerbaijan, and stressed the importance of the relations between these two states.
These closer relations are expected to contribute to stability and development in our region.
