Tuesday, 24 May 2011Turkish International Cooperation & Development Agency (TIKA) will restore "Seyh Mustafa Shrine" in Belgrade, Serbia. "Seyh Mustafa Shrine" is one of the rare buildings remained from Ottoman Empire period in this city. TIKA Serbia coordinator Gokcen Kalkan told A.A on Tuesday that the shrine had been built between 1783 and 1784 for Seyh Mustafa, adding that it had not been repaired in the past 100 years. Noting that they would begin to restore the building after required procedures were completed, Kalkan said that the shrine was an important building for Serbia too. Belgrade was ruled by Ottoman Empire more than 320 years, and it was named as "Byeli Grad" (white city) as it was a home for 273 mosques. However, today, very few of those Ottoman buildings remained in the city. TIKA, working under Turkish Prime Ministry since 1999, aims to create projects which will make economic, commercial, technical, social, cultural and educational contribution in developing countries.
