OSCE supports idea of political dialogue between government and opposition in Azerbaijan, stated the head of Baku office of this organization Maurizio Pavesi at a press conference today.
He said, completion of court proceedings against arrested persons after presidential elections and beginning of campaign on parliament elections may be the most suitable point for beginning of the dialogue.
Pavesi considers, dialogue is to enable assisting creating the environment of "political trust". He mentioned, on completion of court proceedings OSCE is to put its efforts for "recovering" of situation in the state. "It is necessary to close this page," he added.
He was quoted by Turan about the role of OSCE and possible mediation of this organization. Pavesi said, government did not make any proposals about mediation. At the same time, OSCE conference with participation of representatives of government and opposition is one of forms of dialogue.
Pavesi underlined, OSCE Baku offcie intensely traces situation in mass media and informs Vienna office about the facts of assaults on journalists in Azerbaijan. Besides, OSCE is to focus its attention on creation of public television and to support adoption of law about freedom of information.
Pavesi refused to comment on the completed trial against opposition leaders and underlined, Baku office is making report on several trials after presidential elections.
As for restriction on freedom of assembly, Pavesi said, this issue causes concern of Baku office of OSCE. His deputy Robin Sivord added, he applied to the president administration several times, however he did not get the answer.
