Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said, "The study we carried out in coordination with the Intern Ministry has been completed. We are changing the passports. The new passports will be at the EU standards and with 10-year-term. The printings have started and the first samples have come."
Gul said that the EU passports with 10-year-term were started to be printed.
The passports will be as a bound book, but will bear secret signs with barcodes and readable with ultraviolet rays.
At the harmonization process with the EU, Turkey is making one of the important steps concerning directly the nationals, related to the passports.
At his statement before his visit to Germany for which he will leave today, Gul said that the passports in compliance with the EU norms were started to be printed. Gul drew attention to the importance that he would make his first visit abroad, to Germany after the announcement of Progress Report.
