The outcome of the July 22, 2007 election has been interpreted from various aspects. As it is agreed by everyone, the common denominator of the commentators is that the party in power gained an important election victory. Without a doubt, the ruling party, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) which increased its votes from 34.5% to 46.5% is the victor. Despite the consensus on the winner of the election, there is divergence of opinions on the defeated parties in the elections.

One of the most important results of the July 22 election is that 23 candidates who are actually candidates of the DTP- predominantly supported by the Kurdish population- joined in the election as the independent candidates and got into the parliament.

Whether the people from the Democratic Society Party (DTP), implying or expressing that they will not repeat the mistakes they made in 1991, will adhere to their rhetoric or not, the real outcome will be revealed in the following days. However, even though Leyla Zana, the protagonist of the 1991 tragedy, had said that she would spare more time for her house and herself, she couldn’t restrain herself from making very unfortunate declarations with great passion to sabotage the new process.

As it is easily understood from her declarations, Zana got bored at her home, finding her holiday to long and return to the political scene with spectacular words which can imply that she is surrendered to her fear of being forgotten. In fact, Zana must have been very happy for launching an open bombardment to the ship of the DTP MPs, while on the contrary to Zana they declare their confidence in peaceful politics as a new start and new manifest.

It is quite clear that these and similar attacks will occur in forthcoming days in order to force DTP into rhetoric which can be defined as ethnic extremism. Even, it would be better for the DTP MPs to rehearse how to rescue their ship from now on in order not to be caught out in case of possible future attacks.

As soon as possible, the DTP MPs have to notice that a considerable portion of the attacks which is directed against their enactment to provide civil and bloodless solutions will come from the extreme Kurdist provocateurs. The developments that might cause their political detention will not be resulted from the actions of other parties, on the contrary, it will be brought about by the terrorist organization and extremist provocateurs and who are acting in accordance with their emotions rather than their logic.

The DTP MPs will mostly have difficulties in introducing and defining the PKK and its terrorist activities. As an outcome of consciously determined strategy, not a result of an error, the PKK have been trying to survive through killing of 5160 Turkish and Kurdish civilians since 1984 (JTW PKK Chronology (1976-2006) / International Strategic Research Organization) all of whom were all innocent and deliberately targeted by the PKK. PKK is blackmailing over blood, weapon, bomb and deaths which clearly indicates that PKK is a terrorist organization. In this regard, it is not only inconsistent to try to change and soften the statement but also it will prevent dealing with the real problems which really needs struggle.

From this point of view, the DTP MPs would be the part of the solution if they estrange themselves from the shadow of terror and get rid of their dilemma of politics and bombing blackmail.

The DTP MPs would become the part of the solution if they, themselves believe that they are one of the political parties in Turkey instead of a party of a marginal group of violence.

The DTP MPs would additionally become the part of the solution if they can prevent fever of tension which may possibly arise among the people who voted for them and have some hopes about them and do not surf on the emotions of the people whose votes they got.

Moreover, the DTP MPs would contribute to the solution if they can take into consideration the emotions of the people and even their anger and if they provide policies being production of rational mentality to answer these.

The DTP MPs would become a part of the solution as well if they understand how the statements can have profound and provocative effect on the public and cause big problems as experienced in 1991 and only with this consciousness they can be a part of the TGNA (Turkish Grand National Assembly).

The DTP MPs would be watched over closely and all eyes would be on their back. There is a huge responsibility upon their shoulders. They will be the part of the solution if they do not sacrifice their responsibility for popular and simplistic expression.

With regards to this issue, a famous British proverb is also viable pronouncing that “The first impression of you does not have any second test chance”. The 1991 process was real, experienced, and a chance spent in very inefficient ways, even it became the transformation of the chance into a tragedy. The 2007 process, on the other hand, is not the second chance of 1991. The former one is the process in which a totally new understanding and policy making approach come into existence. If the DTP MPs perceive and interpret the situation in this way, they will become the part of the solution.

Otherwise, a huge price would arise and DTP would have the biggest share of this price, if the shadow of the weapons continues and DTP sustains its role as the backyard of terror and 1991 process is repeated. This is because the people of these territories are fed up with conflicts, the murderers to be protected by followers of speech, tension strategy and mostly the area and means of the politics to be imprisoned by the bombs of PKK. For this reason, the Justice and Development Party achieved its greatest rise with almost 30% increase rate among the electorates from Kurdish origin and the DTP therefore faced with a surprise, as Ahmet Türk said. DTP has to know that if DTP tries to carry the burden of violence, it will be smashed and disappear.

Leyla Zana sent two torpedoes into the election arena, which will prevent DTP to get a good and new start and this is the best indicator of the fact that these and similar torpedoes would follow the way to the DTP ship. They will be the ones who will be damaged.

Let’s see whether the DTP MPs would move their ship to the political arena or they would cause their ship to sink by leaving it to the hands of captivity and blackmail of terror.
